The Elevator Pitch is a trailblazing contest. An opportunity to transform your start-up with a 3-minute business pitch!

Contestants apply online and are shortlisted by a distinguished jury through a multi-stage selection process. The top 3 contestants will pitch live in the Grand Finale at the Start-Up Expo 4 on 28 September 2019.

Eligibility Criteria

The Elevator Pitch contest is for start-ups registered in India. It has three basic eligibility criteria:

  • Your Start-up should be less than five years old
  • Your Start-up should have been a registered Indian entity in operation for at least 3 months
  • Your business should be one that is scalable

Jury

The Elevator Pitch contestants will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of business experts brought together by Lufthansa and TiE Delhi-NCR. While the initial screening will be done online, the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Grand Finale will be judged by a live jury comprising business experts, leaders and mentors.

The Making of a great Elevator Pitch

A great Elevator Pitch is crisp, compelling and comprehensive.

It should encapsulate the story of your start-up and convince the jury about its value in 3 minutes or less, the duration of a typical elevator ride. While this guideline is not a rigid template, here’s a broad sweep of the elements that should be covered along with an estimated time for each segment:

Introduction

  • Give a brief summary about:
    • Your company
    • Your role in the company
  • Segment duration: 15 seconds

Your products or services

  • Provide an overview of the solution that your company offers
  • Contextualize it with the main problem it addresses
  • Segment duration: 45 seconds

The business environment

  • Give a brief idea of your customers and target market
  • Outline your key competitors in the field
  • Segment duration: 30 seconds

Your USP

  • Tell the jury why you believe your company is a winner
  • What is the unique selling proposition of your product or service?
  • What competitive advantages does your Start-up command?
  • Segment duration: 1 minute

The key numbers

  • Give the jury a quick financial snapshot of your company, including current and projected earnings.
  • Segment duration: 30 seconds

Terms & conditions

  1. By participating in the Elevator Pitch contest held under the ambit of Start-Up Expo 4 event, the Participants agree to be bound by all rules; regulations, guidelines or policies ("Rules") associated with the Elevator Pitch contest, including without limitation these terms and conditions, and agree to be bound by any rules and decisions made by the Organiser/Partner, including any interpretations of such Rules by the Organiser/Partner.
  2. The Participants/Winner(s) acknowledge that the Organiser/Partner shall not be liable for any costs, expenses, charges, fees, taxes, etc. incurred by the Participants/Winner(s) in participating in the Elevator Pitch contest, and the Participants/Winner(s) shall be absolutely responsible and solely liable for the same.
  3. The Participants shall not be entitled to win the Prize simply by reason of participating in the Elevator Pitch contest. Further, the Winner so selected shall be entitled to win the Prize as set out hereinabove. The selection process shall be as per the sole discretion of Organiser/Partner. The Participants or their representatives shall have no right to question the process of selection at any stage. In the event there is a tie between two Participants as final winner, then the same shall be resolved at the sole discretion of the (Jury and Organiser/Partner).
  4. Apart from the entitlement to the Prize, the Winner will have no other right or claim against the Organiser Partner.
  5. Grand Prize of the Elevator Pitch Contest under the ambit of Start-up Expo 4:

    The Grand Prize of the Elevator Pitch contest includes a host of opportunities to transform your start-up. It wins you unparalleled access to:

    1. An investor’s office for one entire week to get direct feedback, inputs and potential funding
    2. A dedicated mentor for 6 months with monthly meetings to help accelerate your journey
    3. A Lufthansa Business Class ticket to visit a global entrepreneurship program and network.The ticket issued will be non-transferable, non-refundable, will have no cash value and no mileage will be accrued against the same
    4. A complimentary membership to TiE Delhi-NCR for one year
    5. Mentorship for refining business plan and making it pitch perfect
  6. The Prize/s is non-transferable, and shall not be exchanged for cash. No request shall be entertained by the Organiser/Partner on this behalf and Organizer’s/Partner’s decision shall be final and binding.
  7. Employees of the Organiser/Partner including their affiliate companies, ad agencies, consultants etc. who are working for the Elevator Pitch, will not be eligible for participating in the Live Elevator Pitch.
  8. The Organiser/Partner reserves the right to change/modify terms and conditions and/or criteria of the Elevator Pitch Contest and / or the Prize or the duration/ timing of the Live Pitch or preceding selection rounds, at any time at their own sole discretion and without any prior notice and without assigning any reason whatsoever.
  9. The Organiser/Partner shall not be liable or responsible for any injury, death, damage, loss, delay, cost, expense, or inconvenience caused to any of the Participants during the Elevator Pitch Contest.
  10. Termination: the Organiser/Partner may at any time and for any reason: (a) disqualify a Participant from the Elevator Pitch Contest in their absolute discretion if the Organiser/Partner determines that such disqualification is warranted; or (b) discontinue the Elevator Pitch Contest by posting a notice to that effect on the Website.
  11. In case of any dispute, controversy, claim or difference arising out of or relating to this Elevator Pitch Contest, the decision of the Organiser & Partner shall be final and binding on the Participants.
  12. The Elevator Pitch Contest shall be governed by the laws of India subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of competent court/s at New Delhi.
  13. The decision of the Organiser/Partner in connection with the Elevator Pitch will be final & binding on all Participants.
  14. Any start-up participating in the Elevator Pitch Contest has to be less than five years in operation.
  15. Registered Indian entity in operations for at least 3 months.
  16. The Participant specifically agrees and undertakes not to file in person or through their representatives, any applications, criminal proceedings, and civil suits, in any court or forum in India or abroad against the Organiser/Partner and/or their directors, employees, officers, affiliates or subsidiaries to claim any damages or relief in connection with the Elevator Pitch contest.
  17. The Organiser/Partner shall not be responsible for any loss of Entries for any reason, whatsoever including, due to any problems caused by telephone lines, service providers, network breakdowns, computer service delays, interruptions, network failures, overloads etc.; or for lost, misdirected or misplaced Entries, or for Entries received after the last date of Entries; or for any reasons beyond the control of the Organiser/Partner.
  18. For the purpose of this Elevator Pitch Contest, “Force Majeure Event” shall include fire, earthquake, flood, epidemic, war, acts of God, government rules and restrictions, and any other acts which are beyond the control of the Organiser/Partner, which cannot reasonably be forecasted or provided against, and cannot be predicted by men of ordinary prudence and which prevent or delay the performance of any of the obligations of the Organiser/Partner.
